This easy homemade keto tortilla recipe is delicious, soft, and super pliable. Learn how to make the best low carb tortillas that are perfect for tacos and burritos with just 3 main natural ingredients.

Keto tortilla recipe that is not only grain-free, low in carbs and suitable for any high-fat diet but also egg free, vegan and paleo friendly.

I am craving Indian food like crazy these days. While most of the dishes are easy to turn into a keto-friendly version, I started wondering how I could make their traditional bread (roti, naan) low in carbs. I discovered this recipe, and it’s definitely my favorite keto tortilla or keto naan recipe.

I like eating these delicious tortillas with curry, keto butter chicken, gravy, or with different toppings such as meat, salads, avocado, and dressings.

Is Tortilla Keto?

No, traditional corn tortillas and flour tortillas are not keto-friendly as they are high in carbs and contain very little fiber. They are made from corn and flour, which are not suitable for a keto diet. However, making your own tortillas is a simple solution, and keto-friendly tortillas can be made with almond flour instead of corn or wheat flour. This recipe uses only three main ingredients and takes only a few seconds to prepare. They do not contain eggs, yeast, or grains, but have a tender, soft texture and are pliable like actual tortillas. Despite being made with almond flour, they do not have an almond or nut flavor and taste like traditional tortillas. These keto tortillas are perfect for those on a low-carb diet who want to enjoy a bread-like food while maintaining their diet restrictions.

What Is Naan?

Naan is a type of flatbread popular in Southeast and Central Asia. It is particularly prevalent in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, and neighboring countries.

It has a variety of spellings and pronunciations due to its popularity in so many nations.

They’re traditionally cooked in an extremely hot clay tandoor oven over a charcoal or wood fire.

Ingredients For These Keto Tortillas And Naan

Here we go again with my story, telling you how much I love simple, uncomplicated, yet tasty and addictive recipes. And this is one of those recipes.

Lately, I also posted more of my favorite keto bread replacements so that you can try my bagelsbread loaf, or the 90 seconds bread.

No matter where you live, I am sure that all the ingredients can be found in the nearest food health store, or you can order them on Amazon. Here are the low-carb ingredients you’ll need:

  • Coconut Flour:  a flour that absorbs liquids well and is a great low-carb replacement for wheat flour. You can’t replace it with almond flour in this recipe.
  • Psyllium Husk: powder makes the tortillas stick together, giving them structure and closer in texture to real tortillas. You can bake or fry them in a skillet, and the result is still fantastic. It would be excellent as a keto pizza crust.
  • Hot Water (not boiling): this is the crucial ingredient that activates the flour, and we use them instead of the eggs to avoid the eggy taste. Start by adding a cup, then add more until you get a dough that is not sticky.
  • Coconut Oil: or Butter to give naan an amazing fatty taste. You can skip and still get a perfect paleo tortilla.
  • Seasonings Of Choice: garlic powder or onion powder. Adding spices will cover the slightly coconutty flavor given by the coconut flour.
  • Baking powder

Tips For Making The Best Tortilla

  • The dough for the naan should be slightly sticky. After kneading, it’s not unmanageable, but there’s some sticking. So don’t worry if you end up with a soft and moist dough.
  • Reduce burner heat slightly if naan is cooking too rapidly and browning too much.

Serving Ideas

These tortillas are traditionally served with garlic sauce and green parsley. So, peel a garlic clove, grate it, put some salt and mix it with oil. With this mixture, grease the tortillas when they are hot and enjoy.

But you can also serve them with butter chicken, chicken curry, or your favorite dish. Another great idea will be to add some jam and serve it with a cup of coffee or tea in the morning.

Storing Ideas

  • Fridge: you can wrap these tortillas in foil, then store them in the refrigerator for up to seven days.
  • Freezer: these keto tortillas are also freezer friendly. You can store them in freezer-safe bags in the freezer for up to 2 months. When you want to eat them, heat the tortillas in the oven for 10 minutes, and you will have the impression that you have just made them.

    Hi Ioana

This recipe looks so good and easy, thank you for it.

Curious, have you tried using xanthan gum instead of the psyllium husk? I would be very interested to find out what the quantity would be heh

    All the best

    1. Slightly but not completely unpleasant. Make sure to use refined coconut oil (doesn’t taste coconutty at all). Made them last night and used as tortillas. I love them. Make sure you take enough time to cook them. Otherwise, they will be gelly and slimy on the inside.

  4. Can these be baked? Just wondering temp/time? I have a batch in the oven now on parchment. 350 degrees. Will keep checking so I can get the time right. May have to flip them too. Hmmmmm.

  5. Super love this. Easy and just like a tortilla. It’s a staple in my family keto Foods. I even cook on my comal’.

Just made it: adding 2.5 tea spoons yeast. Wanted to make some pizza and it went okay. I’m trying to find something best possible option for Keto pizza… Anyway- Thank you!

  7. Is there anything besides physillum husk I could use? Because I’m not sure if using it daily would be healthy.

Ok, so these are now my favorite “alternative” naan! I’ve made several others but they were all gummy with no flavor no matter how much seasoning I added. Not these! Good texture. Not at all gummy. I actually feel like I’m eating bread! Thank you for a great recipe!
