Prepare the chicken. Remove any giblets from the cavity. Pat the chicken completely dry with paper towels. Do not rinse the raw chicken.
Make the seasoning mixture. In a small bowl, combine the olive oil or melted butter with the chicken seasoning.
Season the chicken. Rub the seasoning mixture all over the chicken, coating the breast, legs, wings, and underside. Add salt and pepper if needed. Tie the legs together loosely with kitchen twine if desired.
Preheat the air fryer. If required by your air fryer model, preheat it to 350°F (175°C) according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Start cooking. Place the chicken breast side down in the air fryer basket, making sure it fits comfortably. Cook at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes.
Flip the chicken. Carefully turn the chicken breast side up using sturdy tongs or suitable utensils.
Continue cooking. Air fry for another 20–25 minutes, or longer as needed, until the thickest parts of the breast and thigh reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Cooking time varies with the chicken's size and the air fryer model.
Rest before serving. Carefully remove the chicken from the air fryer and transfer it to a cutting board. Let it rest for about 10 minutes before carving.
Serve. Carve into portions and serve with your favorite side dishes.
Notes
A 3–4 lb chicken is recommended, but always check your air fryer's capacity.
Larger chickens may require substantially longer cooking times.
Use an instant-read meat thermometer to confirm the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C) in the thickest parts of the breast and thigh.
For extra crispy skin, pat the chicken dry before seasoning.
Adjust the salt depending on the seasoning blend you're using.
