This Cottage Cheese Pumpkin Mousse is the perfect blend of low sugar, high protein, and low calorie indulgence. With around 20 grams of protein per serving, it’s a creamy, no-bake dessert that tastes like pumpkin pie in mousse form. Blending cottage cheese with pumpkin puree, protein powder, and cozy pumpkin spice creates a silky smooth treat you can enjoy as a healthy dessert, post-workout snack, or even breakfast.

I’ve been loving cottage cheese for years now, not just as a snack but as a secret ingredient in all kinds of recipes. It blends up so creamy you’d never guess it’s cottage cheese. I’ve made sweet treats like lemon mousse, chocolate cottage cheese mousse, and even a rich cottage cheese cheesecake.

On the savory side, I’ve experimented with things like cottage cheese breakfast muffins or cottage cheese wraps and other high-protein bakes. Every single time, it adds protein and creaminess without weighing the recipe down.

This pumpkin protein mousse might just be my new favorite because it tastes like pumpkin pie while packing in serious protein.

Why You’ll Love This Cottage Cheese Pumpkin Mousse

This isn’t just any pumpkin mousse. It’s:

  • Protein-packed – nearly 20 grams of protein per serving. Dessert that doubles as fuel.
  • Low sugar & low calorie – all the cozy sweetness of pumpkin pie without the sugar crash.
  • Made with cottage cheese – blended until silky smooth (no lumps, promise!).
  • Easy, no-bake dessert – just blend, chill, and serve.
  • Meal-prep friendly – make a batch and enjoy all week long.

It’s the kind of recipe you’ll want on repeat during pumpkin season.

Ingredients You Need

Here’s what goes into this creamy cottage cheese pumpkin mousse:

  • Cottage cheese – I love using full-fat for extra creaminess, but low-fat works too.
  • Pumpkin puree – 100% pure pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling). Homemade puree works as long as it’s thick, not watery.
  • Protein powder – I use a sweetened vanilla protein powder, so I don’t need much extra sweetener. If yours is unsweetened, just add more sweetener to taste.
  • Sweetener – any low carb option like erythritol, monk fruit, or allulose. Adjust based on your protein powder.
  • Gelatin powder – gives the mousse that light, airy, set texture.
  • Water – to bloom the gelatin.
  • Vanilla extract – for warmth and depth of flavor.
  • Pumpkin pie spice – usually a mix of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves (sometimes allspice). I love making it fresh at home for the best flavor.

How to Make Pumpkin Protein Mousse

Bloom the gelatin – In a small bowl, stir the gelatin powder into cold water and let it sit for about 5 minutes. This is one of those small steps that makes a big difference.

Blend the cottage cheese – Add the cottage cheese to a high-speed blender or food processor and blend until smooth and creamy. This step is my favorite part because it’s when the cottage cheese completely transforms. No one will ever guess that cottage cheese is the base here.

Add the rest – Scoop in the pumpkin puree, protein powder, sweetener, vanilla extract, pumpkin pie spice, and the bloomed gelatin. Blend until everything looks silky and glossy. My protein powder is sweetened, so I don’t add much extra. If yours is plain, you’ll want to taste and add a little more sweetener here.

Adding pumpkin puree, almond flour, and spices to the cottage cheese mixture.

Taste and adjust – I always take a quick taste before chilling. Sometimes I add an extra pinch of pumpkin spice if I’m craving stronger fall flavors, or a little more vanilla if I want it cozier.

Chill – Pour the mixture into jars, dessert cups, or small bowls. Refrigerate for at least 2 to 3 hours until the mousse is set.

Serve and enjoy – Once it’s set, top it with whipped cream, a dusting of cinnamon, or toasted pecans for crunch. My little trick is to add a few sugar-free chocolate chips on top when I want something extra. And every time I dig into it, I still can’t believe it’s a dessert with 20 grams of protein per serving.

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • Make it dairy-free – Swap the cottage cheese for a thick dairy-free yogurt or silken tofu. The texture will be a little different, but still creamy.
  • Gelatin swap – For a vegetarian option, use agar agar instead of gelatin. Follow the package instructions since it sets differently.
  • Pumpkin puree – If using homemade, make sure it’s thick and not watery, otherwise the mousse won’t set properly.
  • Storage – Keep in the fridge in airtight jars or cups for up to 4 days. It actually gets better as it chills and firms up.
