Finding the best keto bread to replace classic wheat bread seems complicated, time-consuming and most people consider them too much work.

I love making my keto bread with almond flour, hamburger buns, 90 seconds bread, but now it’s time to embark into the chaffle wagon. It’s way easier to make than any other keto bread, has traces of carbs, and there are almost bi dishes to clean. The mini waffle maker it’s a breeze to clean.

Watch this quick video to see how easy it is to make keto waffles!

What is a Keto Chaffle?

A chaffle is a keto waffle made from 2 ingredients: shredded cheese and eggs. The ratio of ingredients is ½ cup of shredded cheese and one egg. From here you can multiply and make more batches of these cheese waffles.

I bet that by now there are no people that aren’t familiar with this fantastic low carb bread replacement. In the basic chaffle recipe are just two main ingredients but the keto family already developed over 30 versions, both sweet or savory.

Ingredients for Keto Chaffles

Chaffles are incredibly simple when it comes to ingredients. This basic recipe is made with just two ingredients: cheese and eggs.

Other chaffle variations include coconut flour, almond flour, cocoa powder, sweetener, and different ingredients you’ll mostly find in a classic keto waffle or keto pancakes recipe.

How to Make Keto Chaffles

Traditional Chaffles are easy to make thanks to whoever invented them. I’ll be eternally grateful. Basically, all you have to do is to sprinkle the shredded cheese onto the hot mini waffle maker, then pour the beaten egg and top it with more cheese. Wait a few minutes until the waffle maker works its magic and turns there two ingredients into a crispy golden waffle. Cheese waffles will crisp up, even more, a few more minutes after being removed from heat.

To make chaffles, I use a different method, and it seems to solve some of the problems that people may have when making this keto bread recipe.

Start by heating the waffle maker. Meanwhile, get a small bowl, add one egg and the shredded cheese.

Vigorously whisk the ingredients until well incorporated. Sprinkle some cheese on the waffle maker (for extra crispiness) and then pour half of the batter onto the hot waffle maker.

PS: Do not pour all the batter onto the waffle maker; this recipe makes two mini cheese waffles.

There’s no need to grease the pans as the fat released from cheese while cooking is just enough to prevent sticking.

The waffles are perfectly crispy after 4 minutes, and that’s when you should carefully remove them from the mini waffle maker.

How do Chaffles Taste?

I love how chaffles taste, and I find them extremely tasty. While most people seem to like them, some say it tastes like a cheese omelette. However, if you make this recipe using my instructions and cook them long enough. I guarantee you’ll love these crispy cheese waffles.

How to Serve Chaffles?

When it comes to serving chaffles only the sky, it’s the limit. Anything that can be eaten between two slices of bread goes perfectly with chaffles. Here’s how I love to enjoy mine:

  • Bread replacements for sandwiches
  • Buns for burgers
  • Instead of Biscuits with Keto Gravy
  • Topped with Crack Chicken
  • As a substitute for toast served for breakfast along with sausage, bacon, or eggs.

Tools to Make Keto Chaffles

I own a few waffle makers that come in different shapes. While those work great for chaffles too, I got the best results after I got my Dash Mini Waffle Maker.

In fact, I ordered two of them to make sure it comes in handy when meal prepping. It makes the perfect sized 4-inch waffles and heats up fast. It makes my life easier, and it seems to be sold out ever since it became an overnight sensation and everyone wants one or more! There are tons of benefits of having a mini waffle maker:

  1. It’s compact and perfect for a small kitchen (like mine).
  2. It has a non-stick surface. That’s what you want from your waffle maker, especially when using just cheese and eggs to make one.
  3. Heats up super fast
  4. Extremely easy to clean

You can purchase Dash Mini Waffle Mare from Amazon or search them in stores such as Walmart, Sam’s Club, or Bed Bath & Beyond.

Chaffles are all over pinterest, today was a good day to try them. Luckily, no one was walking by when I opened the lid or their ears would have been burning. Mucho screaming and cursing. Years ago I worked at williams sonoma for christmas, really loved it there and a hefty discount. So I purchased two different waffle irons. A rep came and gave us a talk stressing to never oil the iron. It was made to work well and oiling would ruin it. And it has been good. But the chaffle stuck mightily. I scraped out the shreds and ate them, yum. Cleaning the iron all day. 🙁 🙁 🙁 A “chaffle iron” is on my list for target so I can oil it. I am guessing people butter or oil the iron for chaffles???? Looking forward to trying all of your options.

    1. What a day you had! I use melted butter or non-sticking spray to grease my mini waffle maker. I tried making chaffles without greasing and they didn’t stick. It’s a fantastic kitchen tool. I have 2 of them and make at least 4 chaffles every day.

  2. Help! I do not have FB twitter yum etc. But I am on my computer and would like to print some of the chaffle recipes and cant seem to do it. Where do I go to find the recipes and print them? Melissa

    1. Oh, I see. Do you want to print some of the chaffle recipes inside the post? At the bottom of the page, you have the recipe card and there’s a print button for the classic chaffles. I’ll make sure to include the other chaffles there so you can print them.

  3. I found it much easier to just triple the amount of cheese while keeping the egg to just one–crispy, really good, very versatile, and I use various cheeses (shredded) to change up the taste a bit. I mix the egg and cheese together, then cook that on the waffle maker, and it’s far easier than doing the cheese and egg separately, at least for me.
The hot chaffle tastes great with butter brushed onto it, too, letting it melt into the chaffle—-FABULOUS!
