How To Make Air Fryer Sausage

Well, here comes the best part of this recipe: you will need only the sausages and your favorite seasonings(if you want).

  • Sausages – Opt for high-quality sausages made from fresh ingredients for the best flavor and texture. Choose your favorite type of sausage, whether it’s pork, chicken, turkey, or even plant-based, for a vegetarian option.
  • Seasonings—You can either season them with your favorite seasonings, such as paprika, salt, and garlic powder, or leave them as they are.

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheating the air fryer helps ensure the sausages cook evenly and achieve a crispy exterior. Most air fryers require preheating for a few minutes before cooking.
  2. Choose the Right Sausages: Opt for high-quality sausages with good flavor. Depending on your preference, you can choose from various types, such as pork, chicken, turkey, or even plant-based sausages.
  3. Seasoning Options: Experiment with different seasonings to enhance the flavor of the sausages. You can use simple seasonings like salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika, or try more complex blends for added depth of flavor.
  4. Avoid Overcrowding: Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Arrange the sausages in a single layer with some space between them to allow for proper air circulation and even cooking.
  5. Flip Halfway Through: Flip them halfway through the cooking time using tongs to ensure that the sausages cook evenly on all sides. This helps achieve a crispy exterior and juicy interior.
  6. Check Internal Temperature: Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the sausages to ensure they are fully cooked. Poultry sausages should reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C), while pork sausages should reach 165°F (74°C).
  7. Don’t Overcook: Avoid overcooking the sausages, which can become dry and tough. Keep an eye on them towards the end of the cooking time, and remove them from the air fryer once they reach the desired level of doneness.
  8. Let Them Rest: Allow the cooked sausages to rest for a few minutes before serving. This allows the juices to be redistributed, resulting in juicier and more flavorful sausages.

Serving Ideas

  • Sausage and Cheese Platter: Arrange slices of air fryer sausage on a platter with an assortment of keto-friendly cheeses such as cheddar, Gouda, and pepper jack. Add some olives, pickles, and sliced cucumbers for a delicious and satisfying snack or appetizer.
  • Sausage Salad: Slice the air fryer sausages and toss them with mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, avocado slices, and sliced almonds. Drizzle with a dressing such as olive oil and balsamic vinegar or a creamy ranch dressing made with sour cream or Greek yogurt.
  • Sausage and Veggie Stir-Fry: In a skillet, stir-fry sliced air-fried sausages with low-carb vegetables like broccoli, bell peppers, and cauliflower with olive oil and garlic. Season with spices like paprika, cumin, and chili powder for a flavorful and satisfying meal.
  • Sausage Stuffed Bell Peppers: Cut bell peppers in half lengthwise and remove the seeds. Fill each pepper half with a mixture of cooked air fryer sausage, cauliflower rice, diced tomatoes, and shredded cheese. Bake in the air fryer until the peppers are tender, and the filling is heated through and bubbly.
  • Sausage and Cauliflower Mash: Serve slices of air-fried sausage alongside creamy cauliflower mash. Steam or boil cauliflower florets until tender, then mash with butter, heavy cream, and garlic powder until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Storing Ideas

  • Fridge: Allow the cooked air fryer sausages to cool completely before transferring them to an airtight container or resealable plastic bag. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. When ready to eat, you can reheat them in the air fryer, microwave, or skillet until warmed through.
  • Freezing: If you have leftover air fryer sausages that you won’t be able to consume within a few days, you can freeze them for longer-term storage. Place the cooled sausages in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until firm. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer-safe container or resealable plastic bag, removing as much air as possible before sealing. Label the container with the date and store in the freezer for up to 2-3 months. To reheat, thaw the sausages in the refrigerator overnight before reheating as desired.
