What Are Cream Cheese Cookies?

Cream cheese cookies are soft and moist cookies that use cream cheese as one of the main ingredients. These cookies often have a delicate buttery texture, making them a delightful treat for any occasion. Cream cheese cookies are super versatile and can be made in various flavors, such as vanilla, chocolate, orange, and lemon.

They are a popular choice for those following a keto or low-carb lifestyle since they can be made with low-carb sweeteners and almond flour instead of traditional wheat flour.

Ingredients Needed and Substitutions

These gluten-free cream cheese cookies require only 7 low-carb ingredients that you may already have in your pantry. Here is a list of everything you will need:

Keto Cream Cheese Cookies Ingredients
  • Almond Flour and Coconut Flour – Use super fine almond and coconut flour to avoid creating any clumps. If you can’t find superfine flour, use a food processor to make it.
  • Butter – add a delicious buttery flavor. Ensure that you are using softened butter to mix easily.
  • Cream Cheese – provides the cookies with a rich, creamy texture and flavor.
  • Sweetener – feel free to use your favorite sweetener. Just ensure that it is powdered to combine well with the cookie batter.
  • Egg – helps everything to bind together.
  • Baking Powder – helps the cookies rise and become light and fluffy.
  • Vanilla extract – use the best quality for a more intense flavor.
  • Salt – used to enhance all the flavors.

Add the almond flour(1/2 cup at a time) and mix until the cookie batter is ready.

Forming the Cookies

Now it’s time to shape the cookies. Take a medium ice cream scoop and scoop portions of the dough onto a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment paper or greased. Use your palm to gently flatten each cookie, creating a uniform thickness.

Baking Keto Cookies

Preheat your oven to 350F and then bake the cookies for approximately 15 minutes. Keep an eye on them and remove them from the oven when the edges turn lightly golden. The baking time may vary depending on your oven, so adjust accordingly.

Once the low carb sugar free cookies are baked, remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the cookies to cool completely. This cooling process will help the cookies become crisp and enhance their texture.

Tips For Making The Best Cream Cheese Keto Cookies

  • Sift all dry ingredients to ensure no clumps in the cookie batter.
  • You can chill the dough in the fridge for about 30 minutes to make it easier to handle and help the cookies hold their shape while baking.
  • Don’t overbake the cookies. Otherwise, they will become dry and crumbly.
  • Don’t overmix the dough. This will make the cookies tough.

Recipe Variations

  • Keto Cream Cheese Chocolate Chips Cookies – fold 1/4 cup of unsweetened chocolate chips into the cookie batter.
  • Make citrus flavor cookies. Add 2 tsp of orange or lemon zest for a refreshing flavor.
  • After the cookies have chilled, drizzle some homemade caramel sauce over them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Make This Recipe Ahead Of Time?

Sure, you can double or triple the recipe and save half of the dough wrapped in plastic foil in the fridge or freezer until you want to enjoy some freshly baked soft cookies.

Are Cookies Keto-Friendly?

Regular cookies are not good for a keto diet since they are made using sugar and flour, both known to be high in carbohydrates. But fortunately, you can easily turn a regular cookie recipe into a keto one by making a few changes to the ingredients, as we did in this recipe.

Can I Substitute Coconut Flour For Almond flour In Keto Cream Cheese Cookies?

I don’t recommend replacing the almond flour with coconut flour in this recipe since the coconut flour absorbs more liquid than almond flour, and I will have to change the amount of the rest of the ingredients.

Can I Use Other Type Of Cheese Instead Of Cream Cheese?

Sure, if you don’t have cream cheese, you can easily replace it with the same amount of mascarpone or ricotta cheese.
